December 2007 Letter

Hello Family and Friends!

As this year draws to a close, we have realized that most of you have no idea what has been going on in our lives. So here is an annual update from our little family to yours.

January saw us coming back from Oregon, where we spent last Christmas and New Year with my (Jennifer’s) family. Upon arriving back in Switzerland, I worked part-time for three families.

In February, Didier started traveling to Munich almost every week to attend meetings. We also used that time to visit Michael (his brother), Martina, and the girls. I stopped working at the end of February.

We packed all of our stuff up in March to move from Gross (near Einsiedeln) to our new home in Schoenenberg. Our new place is an apartment in an old house, which was built in 1762. It is in a really beautiful area and the apartment is very charming and classic. It is about 15 minutes to the TNI office in Thalwil, and so much easier for me to get anywhere with the bus/train.

In the middle of March, Didier flew to Las Vegas for a TNI Convention, and I went up to Germany to visit Spencer (my uncle) and his family.

For Easter, our branch rented a large house in Wildhaus and we were asked to cook for everyone. There were about 90 people there (including children) and it was kind of crazy cooking for that many people, but it was really fun at the same time. As soon as we got back from the camp, Didier spent three weeks in the Swiss Military, also cooking.

From May to August we didn’t do much due to my enormous belly (a.k.a. Emily), but we did attend the Schluchter Family reunion at the end of July in Adelboden. We spent a week with Didier’s parents, brothers, sister, and their families, totaling 18 people. We went on a few hikes (shorter versions for me), a horse drawn carriage ride, on an alpine slide, went to the Blue Lake (Blausee), and had a great time together.

On August 22nd Emily finally figured out how to join us in this world, 11 days after her due date. She was born at 14:55, weighted 4.18 Kg (9.2 lbs), and was 53 cm (20.8 inches) long. It was a long and tiring process for all involved, but everything turned out fine in the end. I stayed in the hospital two days after the birth and then I came home. Didier was able to take off three weeks from work to be with us.

Since then, we have been enjoying Emily and watching her get bigger and bigger. For Halloween, I dressed her up as a little Swiss cow and we went to the Stake Halloween Party.

In November, my parents were able to come out for Emily’s baby blessing and we had a family luncheon afterwards. My dad was only able to stay a couple of days, but my mom was here for 10 days. We had a great time with them and we’re so grateful that they were able to make it out. While my mom was here, she watched Emily for an evening while Didier and I went to Cirque du Soleil-Delirium in Zurich. The show was awesome, as was the time out and away from the baby. For the last couple of days my mom was here, we went up to visit Spencer and go shopping on the Air Force Base.

In the middle of November Didier started a new job with Xencore as a Senior Consultant. Xencore is an Executive talent search company. Basically they find and try to place people for high end/executive openings in the financial and IT sector. We are both really excited for this new opportunity and learning experience.

We are spending Christmas this year at home, and are looking forward to Didier’s family coming to visit us on the 27th.

We are really happy and feel extremely blessed for all of the many things that have been bestowed upon us this year. We are looking forward to hearing from and/or seeing you this coming year.

Merry Christmas and we wish you a Happy New Year!
